Christian Lacroix

Summary
Born 1951, in Arles, Bouches-du-Rhône, Southern France, Christian Lacroix is a high-end fashion designer and founder of the couture house named after him. Lacroix originally aspired to be a museum curator, but detoured into haute couture when Jean-Jacques Picart found him a job working at Hermès in 1978. He went on to work under Guy Paulin and later, Jean Patou, before moving on to set out on his own in 1987.
Lacroix's opulent, fantastical and at times, fairytale-like creations gained him fame and acclaim. He launched many fashion and cosmetic lines throughout the 1990s and 2000s, and was appointed creative director for the Italian fashion house, Pucci, from 2002 to 2005. Designing for a wide variety of clients from Hollywood starlets to Air France, he also
created works for theatre, opera and dance.
However, in 2009, the Christian Lacroix fasion house fell victim to the global financial crisis and filed for insolvency and protection from creditors.
